Saskatoon Open Door Society News

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Saskatoon Open Door Society's second annual Volunteer Fair! It was a HUGE success!

Approximately 245 newcomers attended and learned about volunteering in Saskatoon.

Thanks to all the volunteer organizations that were in attendance (Agriculture in the Classroom, Bridging Rivers Area Girl Guides, the Canadian Diabetes Association, the City of Saskatoon Community Association Coordinators, Cosmopolitan Industries Ltd., Frontier College, Habitat for Humanity, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, MCC Thrift Stores of Saskatoon, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre, the Saskatoon Health Region, SCYAP, Volunteer Saskatoon and the YMCA Saskatoon). Your time and involvement were greatly appreciated. Thank you as well for your valuable feedback.

Thank you to all the people who attended the fair. We are so grateful for your feedback. Of those who responded to the Volunteer Fair Evaluation, 91% of the respondents thought the fair was good, very good, or excellent. We were also pleased to see that 45 % of the respondents said that they would volunteer at one of the organizations in attendance and 40% said that they might volunteer with one of those organizations. That is 47 newcomers becoming engaged in their communities and 42 newcomers who are considering the various options they have to participate in their community!

Thank you to all the teachers, settlement counselors, and support staff who referred people to the fair or attended. We would also like to send out a special thanks to Ashten, Claressa, Kieu, and Lacy who helped us make the Volunteer Fair operate so smoothly. We could not have done it without you!

Thank you especially to all the newcomers who attended the Volunteer Fair. We are looking forward to seeing you in the community, volunteering and helping our volunteer organizations grow to include your special talents and expertise!
