Register Child for School

Settlement Support Workers in Schools (SSWIS)

SSWIS is an outreach program designed to help newcomer students and their families settle in Saskatoon. SSWIS connects newly arrived families with services and resources in the school and community to promote settlement and foster student achievement.

The SSWIS program is a partnership of the Saskatoon Open Door Society, Saskatoon Public schoolsGreater Saskatoon Catholic SchoolsLe Conseil de ecoles Fransaskoises and Prairie Spirit School Division

SSWIS Workers can help with:

  • School registration
  • Information about and orientation to the Canadian school system
  • Cross-cultural counselling
  • Referrals to community resources
  • Connecting youth to affordable programming
  • Interpretation services
  • Facilitating the connection between schools and parents

To register your child for SSWIS services, please complete the SSWIS Consent form.

To Complete and Submit the Form Online:

  1. Click on Enable all the bottom of the form, then then Continue access the online form
  2. Fill out all required information. If you have more than one child, include details for all children in the same form.
  3. Click the ‘Sign’ button to provide your signature.
  4. Enter your email address to confirm the information.

After submitting, you will receive an email confirmation with a copy of the completed form for your reference. Once confirmed, we will securely receive the form. This ensures every parent/guardian can easily complete and submit the consent form.

SSWIS Programs

Orientation Workshop for Newcomers (OWN)

OWN is a program run by SWISS to help newcomer students transition into the Canadian school system. This is achieved through an orientation workshop where students and their families visit the school, meet the staff and EAL teachers, and participate in a variety of activities such ice-breakers and presentations. OWN workshops are held in participating schools at the end of August, before the school year begins, and are scheduled for a half-day (morning or afternoon).
