Who is eligible?

A local business primarily owned and operated by a newcomer that has been in operation for at least 2 years, but not longer than 10 years. The business must demonstrate support for immigrant employment, contribution to the local economy, and commitment to community involvement.

Evaluation Criteria:

  1. Proportion of immigrant employees relative to the total number of non-immigrant employees (30% of the total score);
  2. Presence of ethnically diverse team: no single ethnic group makes up more than 50% of the total number of employees (30% of the total score);
  3. Gives back to the community through community involvement (e.g., mentorship/internship programs, the owner serves on boards/committees, organizes or contributes to community events, does charitable work) (40% of the total score).

* The term immigrant refers to recent and established newcomers whose education and work experience was mainly obtained outside of Canada.
